Well, I was excited to get our IVF paperwork packet from the clinic today until I saw the pricing sheet. Since January, the cost of the "average" cycle went up $2,000. And we have no IF coverage.
This hit me pretty hard. Just the fact that we have to do this & also the fact that it went up so high. The donated meds, too, is not ALL of the meds we will need to use. If we are approved (which only depends on if the meds are available, not in a qualifying sense), it will cover $1900 of the $2800 meds category.
So instead of the amount we thought we'd have to save, we will have to save approximately 50% more. This sucks.
Spoke with DH more about this & he was very supportive. He is still encouraged to do the cycle. Thankfully they are offering OT at his employment this summer & if he can maximize on his hours, that will help with the IVF savings. Also, since I was budgeting for the original amount & how much we would need to save every month... I can revisit that & see if there is any way to squeeze more money out of the budget towards IVF. We also have a couple of small summer vacations planned that will not cost very much, so we are nixing the 4 year anniversary trip to Savannah. I'm a little disappointed about that, but it's okay. Maybe on our 5 year anniversary.
So, all in all... our cycle will still hopefully happen unless we cannot get all the money in time. If not, I guess we will proceed with the cycle in the beginning of the year. Only time with tell.

i'm so sorry...i can imagine how bad it sucks. we are covered but we still pick up the co-pays, the drugs and other charges constantly. 15 minute consultations with our doctor run us 50 bucks. it's so wrong but i guess you do what you have to do.
Yikes! I know exactly how you feel about the money aspect. We saved for two years to do our IVF cycle. What about getting meds from a cheaper online pharmacy? It is so unfair that we have to pay for something that others get so easily. We also did lots of fundraising so let me know if you are interested in some ideas. Take care ((hugs))
Doesn't it suck that money plays such a part in this? It drives me crazy that the timing and decisions can really be driven about the financial side. Bah. Good luck saving:-(
I've been hit with 2 major IVF price hikes in less than 12 months - it's crazy! You can't put a price on these things but as they say money doesn't grow on trees either!
That stinks!! Thing's will fall into place for you guys. We had to do a lot of fund raising for our cycle. We had yard sales which we hated doing but brought in a good bit of money. We turned to the church,family,and friends and told them we were having the yard sales and asked if anyone had anything they wanted to get rid of. We were shocked how much stuff we got. Just an idea. Hang in there.
